A Note from Dr. Ryan Saunders, SPCS Superintendent

The month of November is one of my favorites. These 30 days are often filled with gratitude, delicious pies, fall foliage, clean, crisp air, exciting school activities, and the anticipation of what’s to come. Each year around this time, the swift passing of the days becomes more evident and, as a result, it leaves many of us in a state of reflection and anticipation.

I’ve recently been thinking about all the great things we’ve accomplished at SPCS. And look at what’s right around the corner! Before we know it, our seniors will be walking up to the podium to accept diplomas that they’ve worked for years to obtain. Springfield's students and staff members will be enjoying their new school building in less than a year! Can you believe it’s almost 2022?

I know what you're thinking...

Saunders, slow it down. We’re not there yet!

It is true. These things are months away, but as the weather starts to turn and the trees we just planted around Springfield Elementary School and Buffalo Park become bare, it reminds me of how fast things shift. Things can change in the blink of an eye, as we have seen over the past few months and years. I believe we are on the home stretch of the marathon we have been running. As the SPCS school superintendent and community member, I am proud and hopeful.

I have witnessed so much kindness here! I have seen how hard our teachers, students, and parents have been working. I am thankful. Did you happen to see the Veterans Day event? Wow! That was a perfect example of how this community comes together for all the right reasons.

Next week, staff and students will have five full days to be at home with their families and friends. Please take this time to relax, reflect, and get excited. Savor the memories. Take a moment to pat yourself on the back for a job well done – and that goes for everyone reading this. It’s been a challenging year, and you deserve to have a great Thanksgiving. Enjoy the pumpkin pie, the changing leaves, the holiday lights, and festive music. We look forward to seeing what the next months have in store for us, but let’s not rush ahead too fast because November is a special month.

Happy Thanksgiving, Springfield Platteview Community!
